Accident sends 18 to hospital

A black pickup truck with two occupants, traveling southbound on Co. Rd. 9 in Sunrise Township Saturday night apparently didnít see the stop sign and collided with a church van carrying 15 juveniles traveling on Hwy. 95, according to the Chisago County Sheriffís Department.

Lakes Region EMS was first on the scene of the accident where Paramedic Nicolas Barratt found multiple patients, many of which were minors.

Barratt implemented a disaster plan, according to EMT John Fox, and with other EMS personnel, fire/rescue and law enforcement personnel began triaging and transporting patients.

A school bus was summoned from the North Branch School District to transport patients to Fairview Lakes Regional Medical Center in Wyoming.

According to Fox, five were transported by ambulance to the medical center, four on backboard. Later, he said, one was transferred to Regions Trauma for further treatment.

The van carrying the church group was pulling a trailer. No details were available at press time on the name of the group nor destination.

The accident remains under investigation.
