Tiger boys pull off close win against Isle

By Barbara Brown

The Rush City Tiger basketball team narrowly beat Isle in a Feb. 22 home match.

Head coach Gary Dreissig started the game by playing all five seniors on the team.

Ricky Carlson, Jose Figueroa, Shawn Sjostrom, Dan Turner and Erik Piel were recognized for working hard for the team and were congratulated on their upcoming graduations.

Figueroa popped open the game by putting the first points for the Tigers on the board.

The first quarter ended with a 14-11 Tiger lead over Isle. The second quarter also saw the Tigers take control of the game.

The teams went to the locker rooms at halftime with a 27-21 lead held securely by the Tigers.

After the half, however, the Rush City offense fell back somewhat and scored only seven points in the third quarter.

Isleís offense had a tough battle against the Tiger defense, and only scored 10 in the third quarter.

The final quarter proved how much Isle was improving throughout the game.

The last quarter ended with both teams sinking 14 for the final score of 48-45.

ìOur defense, again, was very solid, holding Isleís top two scorers to seven points each,î Dreissig said.

Figueroa scored 13 for the Tigers, including three 3-pointers. Turner turned out 10 for the team. Kyle Mold and Joe Prettner sank nine each. Sjostrom sank four and Kris Guentzel took in three.
