Lady Tigers win two, lose twoBy Barbara Brown The Rush City girls basketball team went 2-2 after games against Braham, Ogilvie, Maranatha and Aitkin through Feb. 22, losing two conference matches and winning one in the conference. They headed to competition against Meadow Creek Tuesday night fresh from two wins in a row. The Feb. 19 match-up against Maranatha finally turned the tide in Rush Cityís favor as the Tigers pulled off a 47-41 win. Maria Kuhlman opened the game by sinking a three point shot. She would finish the night landing four of the 12 field goal attempts she made. Brooke Larson followed Kuhlmanís lead and shot five times from the outside, landing two 3-pointers. The team took on a more adventurous attitude, trying 23 field goals throughout the game compared to Maranathaís 11 tries. Free throws again were strong point-earners for the Tigers. Shawna Werner pulled down four of four attempts and Moore landed one of the two tries she was given. The Tigers kept the momentum going for the Feb. 22 match-up against conference opponent Aitkin. The Tigers scrapped the Gobblers in a 50-32 route that was highlighted by the numbers of shots attempted. Rush City totaled 72 attempts from the court and 22 attempts from the free throw line. Aitkin tried 41 from the court and 15 from the line. Kuhlman landed one of the four 3-pointers she tried and hit three of 14 tries from the two-point zone. She shot 100 percent from the free throw line, sinking both her attempts. Kuhlman grabbed eight rebounds, four recovers, had five assists and 11 blocks. Jess Prettner sank four of the 10 she tried for two points each. Prettner also landed two of six free throw attempts and had four rebounds, three recover and 10 blocks. The Tigers lost to Braham in a Jan. 31 game that ended 42-23. Kuhlman tried five field goals, but just couldnít get them to stick. She sank three of nine two-point attempts in the conference game. Mindy Scott landed three of the 12 two pointers she tried and Jess Prettner pulled down two of the 11 she attempted. Prettner earned the chance to hit eight free throws. She shot 63 percent at the line, sinking five. Prettner also pulled down nine rebounds. She also had three steals during the game. Scott had five rebounds and grabbed a steal. Larson took four rebounds and one steal. Moore brought down three rebounds and stole the ball once and Kuhlman rebounded twice and stole the ball three times. Cara Orn pulled down two rebounds. The Tigers could not fend off the Braham offense. The first quarter ended with the Bombers ahead 8-1. Braham took a commanding lead in the second, taking the score to 24-5 at the half. After the half, the Tigers came back to the court, seemingly refreshed. Rush City outscored Braham 12-6 in the third, but the team effort was not enough to pass its opponent. The third period ended with Braham leading 30-17. Scoring in the fourth quarter flip-flopped and Braham took 12 while Rush City pulled down 6. When the Tigers faced Ogilvie Feb. 5, their luck had not changed. The team fell to the Lions 42-36. Rush City scored most of its points in the conference games from free throws, scoring a total of 13 from the line. Prettner sank four free throws she had the chance to try. Kuhlman did the same, landing all four of her free throw opportunities. Larson scored two by landing both free throws she had and Scott pulled down three of four free throw attempts she made.
