OpinionAn invitation to participate in your governmentTo the editor: Now that the legislative session in full swing, I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to some upcoming events that emphasize the importance of local citizens participating in Minnesota's political process. The first is by attending your local precinct caucus, and the second is by attending my ěDay at the Capitol.î Precinct caucuses are the first stage in the political process within our state. At precinct caucuses, local citizens begin the process of selecting candidates and issues to be supported by the political party you support in the upcoming elections. This year, precinct caucuses will be held on March 5, at 7 p.m. throughout the state. To participate and vote in a political partyís caucus, you must be eligible to vote on November 5, 2002. For further information on the location of caucuses or other questions, call 1-877-600-VOTE (toll-free) or visit http://www.sos.state.mn.us/Brochures.html on the Internet. This year, I am also sponsoring a ěDay at the Capitolî on Thursday, March 7th, from 8:30 am - 4:00 pm. The day will provide you with the opportunity to meet with House leadership, go to a committee hearing, tour the Supreme Court and the State Capitol, and attend the House of Representatives in session. Weíve arranged for a bus to bring people to and from St. Paul, which you can ride for a fee of $5. To reserve your spot, please call (651) 296-4483. Please make time to attend your respective political partyís precinct caucus on March 5th and join me at the Capitol on March 7th. Both of these events provide you the opportunity to be more informed and involved with how Minnesota state government is run. Remember, your voice is an essential part of what our government stands for. State Representative Rob Eastlund ©ECM Post Review |
