OpinionAccident victim asks county to get out on roads earlierTo the editor: One week ago Wednesday morning many of you not only witnessed, but unwillfully participated in many of our ditch-diving, roll-over, car-crashing accidents in Chisago County. Most of these high intense action pack scenes occurred on our own county roads. Not only did these accidents cause lost time and financial burden, but property damage and physical injuries as well. Could most of this been avoided? The answer is yes. How? By getting the county road crews out on the roads earlier. Chisago County is known by members of law enforcement agencies of having poor response time. When it comes to snow removal and de-icing of roadways. This must change. I am in public asking the county commissioners to change policies to make this happen. If the county cannot do this because the lack of money, are they willing to take the responsibility of victims in a serious or fatal accident? I am writing this letter because I am one of the many who were involved in last weekís charade and was injured (not seriously). And a final note. Last month I faxed a proposal to the county commissioners to be read in public at one of their regular meetings. And to respond in this newspaper by Feb. 14. But no response was made. The proposal was asking the county commissioners to turn down their vote for their own pay hike, and receive no pay hikes or per diems for the next three years, with a three percent pay hike only on the fourth year.
