Rush City gymnasts win tri-meet

The Rush City/ Pine City/ Hinckley-Finlayson (RPH) gymnasts eked out a win over North Branch and Quad Cities in a tri-meet Feb. 2.
RPH scored 125.95, North Branch came in at 125.3 and Quad Cities followed with a close 120.0.

Senior Samantha Rothbauer placed second in all-around scores with 32.4 to close out her senior year at-home competition.

Rothbauer pulled off some impressive numbers Saturday. She tied for first in floor exercise with an 8.4. She also tied for second on vault, scoring 8.6.
Rothbauer also scored 8.0 on uneven bars, securing the third place spot.

RPHís Amanda Matzke came in fourth in all-around scores with 31 points. Matzke secured fifth place in all the individual events.

She scored 8.2 on vault, 7.3 on uneven bars, 8.0 on balance beam and 7.5 in floor exercise.

The teamís balance beam competition got a boost Saturday after the gymnasts stuck more of the routines than they have in the past several competitions.

Kayla Witte scored 8.05, coming in fourth. Gabby Calander scored 7.8 and Mary Jo Youngbauer scored 7.15.

On vault, Laura Erickson scored 7.9, Becky Osterdyk scored 8.4 for third place, and Heather Sivigny scored 8.3 to secure fourth place.

On the uneven bars, Lindsey Klar scored 5.8, Dani Lutz scored 7.3 to tie Matzke for fifth place and Bethany Hagman scored 7.1.

In floor exercise competition, Heather Sivigny took fourth place when she scored 7.7, Molly Tomczyk tied for third place with 7.9 and Bethany Hagman scored 7.0.

The team goes to Chisago Lakes Feb. 8 and 7AA section competition begins Feb. 15.
