RC wrestlers win quad, take 5th in tourneyBy Barbara Brown The Rush City wrestling squad won a quad meet at Pine City Feb. 2, romping the other three teams with ruthless abandon. Rush City beat Nashwauk-Keewatin 57-18, North St. Paul 58-9 and Pine City 60-17. In the Nashwauk-Keewatin match, Tim Allerton, 112, pinned Matt McDonald in :24 to open the match with a bang. Garett Sowman, 130, pulled off a pin against Jerry Wright in 2:57 to continue the rout. Brandon Hochstatter, 135, won a decision. Ray Grabau, 152, pinned his opponent in 3:34. Mike Wuorinen followed up in the 160 class with a pin against his opponent in 5:42. Against North St. Paul, Allerton pinned Trevor Lunch in 1:27, Matt Wuorinen, 119, pinned Mike Morrison in 3:21, Sowman pinned his opponent in :37, Hochstatter pinned his competitor in :57; and Tim Morris, 145, won a major decision against Ryan Hesse. In the Pine City match, Sam Umbreit, 140, pinned Chad Saari in :49; Grabau pinned Aaron Hanson in 1:53; Mike Wuorinen pinned Derek Bestuk in 5:05 and Robert Lind, 171, pinned Carl Heller in 2:41. The Tigers took fifth in the Great River Conference tournament last weekend, scoring 121.5 behind Mille Lacs with 206, Aitkin with 190, Braham with 160 and Hinckley-Finlayson with 154. Ogilvie came in sixth with 98.5. For individual competition, Richard Marohn, 103, took fourth; Allerton took fourth; Matt Wuorinen, took third; Adam Morris, 125, took fourth; Sowman was second; Hochstatter was sixth; Umbreit was second; Tim Morris took fifth; Mike Wuorinen was second; Grabau took fifth; Lind, 171, took sixth; and Robert Thomsen, 275, took fourth. ©ECM Post Review |
