Local businesses to receive award for tobacco complianceRecent tobacco compliance checks conducted this year by the Sheriffís Department and local law enforcement showed that Chisago County has a high rate of compliance with the age-of-sales laws. Tobacco merchants are the first line of defense against the sale of tobacco to minors. To show our appreciation to tobacco retail merchants, the Chisago County Tobacco Coalition would like to publicly recognize retailers who passed this yearís compliance checks. The Coalition will be at the February Chamber Luncheon presenting certificates of congratulations to these North Branch businesses. The Coalition is made up of county residents concerned about tobacco issues in Chisago County. This group is chaired by Cyndi Carroll of the Chisago County Public Health Department, and consists of members from the Public Health Department, the North Branch School District, the Youth Service Bureau, Fairview Health Care, Hazelden, and Community Partnership with Youth & Families. The mission of this group is to focus on reducing youth tobacco use and access and eliminating environmental tobacco smoke. The Coalition strives to improve the health and environment of Chisago County residents by raising awareness through education, training, support, and resources. The businesses that will be awarded at the luncheon include North Branch Municipal Liquor Store, North Branch Conoco, Holiday Station, Tower Liquors, Oak Inn Family Restaurant, American Legion, JJís Bowl & Lounge, Olde Brick Inn, and Caseyís General Store. If you would like to attend the North Branch Area Chamber of Commerce luncheon please call for reservations. Everyone is welcome to attend.
