Fire destroys oldest Taylors Falls building

A fast-burning fire destroyed a historic building in downtown Taylors Falls Saturday night known most recently as the Livery Stable Mall, and with it three businesses including an ice cream store, a Christmas store and a furniture store.

Eleven area fire departments were called in to suppress the flames.

The fire, according to one firefighter, was knocked down around 4 a.m. Cause of the fire has not been determined. Block firewalls between the Livery and nearby stores were credited for saving those businesses.

There were no injuries. Hot spots were watched Sunday as many onlookers showed up to peer at the gaping hole.

Jack Liljenberg will present a short history of the Livery 7 p.m., Jan. 24 at the Taylors Falls Memorial Community Center during the Taylors Falls Historical Society meeting.

The public is invited.
