Tigers hoops lose two; Turner, Dreissig, Prettner lead team pointsBy Barbara Brown The Rush City boys basketball team added another loss to their record Monday night when they were defeated at home by Concordia Academy in a 75-57 loss. The team also feel Jan. 11 during a home match against East Central. Head Coach Gary Dreissig was satisfied with the teamís performance, regardless of what the score board said. Concordia headed on to the court Monday night with four starters who had returned for a sub-section finals team from last season, Dreissig said. Dreissig said a compounding factor in the loss on Monday was the absence of Dan Turner who sat out the game because of an injured knee. However, coming through for the team was Brett Dreissig and Joe Prettner, both of whom scored double digits. Dreissig sank 18 for the team, going 70 percent from the field with seven two pointers. Prettner, who scored 16, going five of nine from the field. Jose Figueroa also made a nice showing, putting in eight for the team. The East Central game was well attended, and players had some impressive moves throughout the evening, but they just couldnít pull down the win. The game started with the team rolling along with an 8-4 lead, but by the time the first quarter ended, the team was down 14-10. After the second quarter, in which the Tigers stayed on par with the first quarter, the team was outscored only by two, taking the score at the half to 30-20. The Tigers experienced a brief rally after halftime and matched the East Central team nearly point for point. In the fourth quarter, the team fell behind East Central, scoring only seven to East Centralís 12. Free throws may have given the East Central team the edge. The team went 19 of 23 free throw opportunities the Tigers handed over. Rush City sank 57 percent of their free throws, or eight of 14. Kyle Mold had an solid game, sinking 13 for the team, including five of seven two-point attempts and one three-pointer. Brett Dreissig pulled down two 2-point shots and sank all six of his free throws, to bring in 10 for the Tigers. Joe Prettner scored eight for the team and had three steals.
