NB Danceline adds several
performances to busy schedule

By Danielle Strenke

The North Branch danceline, in its first year as an official offering at the school, is in its awkward growing years.

Participants, their parents, and coaches have been working at ironing out the kinks in the program, including scheduling performances, competitions, and educating the dancers on what they need to know for competition.

To that end, the president of the danceline judgeís association, Laura Berg Olson, was on hand Tuesday, to guide the girls through their routine and let them know what competition is truly about.

Danceline head coach Dianna Linehan said it is a great opportunity for everyone involved, including parents, to learn the intricacies of danceline competition.

At the start of the season in November, Linehan was unsure how many performances and competitions the dancers would have. But their schedule is quickly filling up, as the team members are finding out the rigors of having practices and competitions virtually every day.

This week, the entire danceline will perform at halftime of the boys basketball game Thursday, and then the varsity line will compete against Waconia on the road Saturday.
Another halftime performance Jan. 29, this time at the girls basketball game. From there, their schedule takes them to competition at Mora Jan. 31, the Chaska Winter Carnival dance competition Feb. 2, and another full line performance at halftime of the boys basketball game Feb. 7.

On Feb. 12, they will compete at Big Lake, and then round out their regular schedule with a performance at halftime of the boys basketball game Feb. 14.

Feb. 16 marks the sectional meet at Alexandria, for the chance to advance to state. As a first-time sport at NBHS, Linehan doesnít think they will advance against more experienced teams, but is impressed with how hard the team is working and how much they have already learned.
