Douglas David HaugenDouglas David Haugen, 43, of North Branch, was killed Saturday afternoon, Jan. 12, 2002 as the result of a plane crash at the Rush City Airport. Funeral services were held at Our Saviourís Lutheran Church, 9185 N. Lexington Ave., Circle Pines, on Thursday, Jan. 17. Douglas was born March 19, 1958 in St. Cloud, Minn. and grew up in Circle Pines. He graduated from Centennial High School, 1976; University of Minnesota, 1980; Masterís degree in Business Administration from Metropolitan U. in 1993. Douglas served four years in the U.S. Air Force as a missile launch control officer, attaining the rank of Captain. After his discharge from the Air Force in 1984 he lived in Sarcoxie, MO. In 1989, he returned to Minnesota and joined in partnership with his father in ownership of Haugenís New Market and SuperValu stores. In 1994, he purchased a SuperValu store in North Branch, which he operated until selling in 1999. At the time of his death he was Director of Human Resources at the Green Acres Care Center in North Branch. Since 1994, he was an active member of the Chamber of Commerce and current member through Green Acres Country Care Center. He served on the Board of Directors and was active as an officer on the Retail Chamber of Commerce. He sponsored and held a childrensí Community Easter Egg Hunt for four consecutive years. He served on the Community Education Board as an advisor, chairperson, and on the Steering Connection Focus Group. He was also a Master Internet Volunteer and one of the first access Minnesota team members and very involved in the training program. He will be missed by his parents, David and Ethel Haugen, sister Debra Barringer & husband Tom, sister Nancy Hiemstra and husband David, brother James and wife Diane; six nieces and nephews, Kirsten and Nathan Hiemstra, Andrew and Elise Barringer, Bryan and Sean Haugen; Aunt Virginia Christenson; cousins, and many friends.
