Minnesota children waiting for homesAdoptive families are urgently needed for school-aged children, children of minority heritage, large sibling groups and children with special medical problems who are under state guardianship, according to Coleen Gregor, director of operations for HOPE Adoptions & Family Services in Oak Park Heights. HOPE is one of several adoption agencies and counties working with the state of Minnesota to find families to adopt waiting children. Funding for the program, called the Minnesota Public Private Adoption Initiative, has been allocated by the Minnesota Legislature. There are no fees associated with these adoptions. Grants are available to pay for medical care, therapy, respite care and other special services for the children. Couples and singles living in Minnesota and Wisconsin are eligible to apply. Applicants need not own their own home or be childless. Families are given training opportunities and are connected with other families who have adopted ìwaiting children.î Orientation meetings are scheduled for the following dates and locations: (Advance registration is required.) ï 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14 at Dist. 833 Program Center, 8400 E.
