Bantam hockey tries to take glory from Blaine hockey team

The North Branch B-2 Bantam hockey team has had to mix older, skilled players with new talented members of the team to pull down a winning season.

Some of the older players, like Dylan and Fletcher Kerr-Johnson have found a rhythm with newcomer Tom Kleidon, who recently moved to the area.

The team was tied with Blaine for second place in the district coming into the second half of the season.

North Branch faced Blaine Jan. 2 at Isanti. Despite valiant defensive efforts, especially by goalies Andrew Dahlstrom and Chris Lindberg, Blaine scored with three minutes left in the first period.

The second period saw Blaine put the biscuit in again.

Offensive linemen Jake Kosky, Blake Ferngren and Marshall Mischler continued to drive to Blaineís net, but their efforts were thwarted.

Nate Obitz and Jake Lane tried to hold off the Blaine blitz, but the opposition proved too much for them. Blaine scored two more goals in the third period.

Team captains Kosky and Levi Disrud said, despite the loss to one of their biggest rivals this season, the team looks forward to competing in district playoffs in February.
