North Branch grad excels as member of Duluth BB team

Scott Johnson, a 2001 graduate of North Branch High School, was named to the ìAll Tournament First Teamî in the 33rd Annual Eau Claire Holiday Classic, Division III, Menís College Basketball Tournament in December.

Attending the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, Johnson, a 6í5î freshman forward, earned the first start of his college career in a third place finish in the tournament.

In the first game of the tourney, Johnson scored a career high 21 points off the bench, schooting 58 percent including 2 for 3 from behind the arc, in a loss to University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire 93-60. Eau Claire went on to win the tournament.

In the third place game against Finlandia University from Hancock, MI., and in his first college start, Johnson shot 63 percent from the field, and also picked up six rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

The young Saints of St. Scholastica, who are off to a slow 3-10 start, started conference play at home last Saturday against Saints of Presentation College, Aberdeen, SD.
