Reality check: North Branch is no longer a small rural community
TO THE EDITOR: Mayor Roger Else stated in your paper that 20 percent (or 200) of registered North Branch voters signed the petition requesting the state to audit the cityís management of its financial matters. The audit, according to your report, gave the city a clean bill of financial health. Questions: 1) When presented with the petition, were the prospective signers informed that the state would charge the city $25,000 of the citizensí tax dollars for the audit, thereby further squeezing an already tight (but well managed) city budget? 2) Would the 200 citizens who signed the petition that cost the city $25,000 chip in to pay for the audit, or at least my particular share of the cost? These tax dollars could have been used in a much more constructive way, and I regret the waste.
