Attempted North Branch kidnapping under investigation

North Branch police reported an attempted kidnapping in the early morning hours of July 12.

Police said a 17-year-old female was grabbed in the 6600 block of Cedar Street while walking home from work in North Branch.

The girl was able to call out to two male friends who were in a front yard of a residence about a block away, police said.

Police said the male assailant released the girl when one of the friends came to the girls aide.
The man who tried to kidnap the girl drove away in an older model green Dodge Dakota, regular cab pickup truck. The truck was last seen traveling east on Hwy. 95.

The suspect was described as a white man in his 40s, about six feet tall, about 180 pounds with short, light colored balding hair.

Police Chief Jules Zimmer said officers are still investigating the incident and have pulled reports of Dodge Dakotas in the area.
