School board to tour new siteBy Barbara Brown The North Branch school board will tour the intermediate education center at Trinity Lutheran Church on July 30 at 6:30 p.m. The district is renting space in the churchís education wing, now under construction, to ease over-crowding in North Branch schools for the 2002-2003 school year. The board also voted at last weekís meeting to continue its support of the Northeast Metropolitan Intermediate School District 916 health and safety program by approving a levy to help fund that districtís program to make health and safety improvements to its schools. Imposing the levy is nothing new for North Branch school district families, according to district Johnson said the district is part of a 11 area districts that put some money toward a pot that Intermediate District 916 can use for health and safety. She said intermediate districts do not have the same kind of taxing authority that districts like North Branch do, so those intermediate districts must as for help from surrounding districts. Johnson said the levy would amount to about $50 per average household in North Branchís school district. Also at the meeting, the board voted to award its trash contract to Terryís Disposal for $1,946.88 per month. One other bid for the work was received but it was significantly higher. East Central Sanitation offered to do the work for $3,690 per month. The board also granted the districtís fuel contract to Kutzke Oil Co. for a .01575 mark-up over the fluctuating base price on gasoline and .01825 on diesel. Two other companies entered bids. Kath Fuel Oil Co. offered .01585 over gasoline base and .1835 on diesel Federated Co-ops offered .04 mark-up on base gasoline and .042 on diesel. The board also set a Truth in Taxation hearing date for Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. with a second on Dec. 12 at 6 p.m if it is needed. ©ECM Post Review |
