Embryonic stem cell research kills
TO THE EDITOR: A June 26 article claims the source for stem cell research is a ėmatter of debate,î but there can be no debate when human beings are being killed. Embryonic stem cell research creates human lives and then kills them for research purposes or mines them for parts. While medical research is certainly critical, it can never be performed at the expense of human lives. It is completely illogical to destroy one human life at the expense of another, no matter the worthiness of the cause. As Thomas Jefferson once stated, ėThe care of human life and happiness, and not their destruction, is the first and only legitimate object of good government.î The founders of our country clearly understood the respect we must have for every life. By opposing embryonic stem cell research, President Bush also understands the dignity we must have for every human being.
