Stacy considers wastewater system

By Barbara Brown

The Stacy City Council decided last Tuesday night to draft a letter explaining their interest in joining a regional wastewater treatment program that would link several southern Chisago County towns.

Discussions about the proposed facility have been underway with several municipalities and townships, including Stacy and Wyoming.

The plan has no price tag at this point, but council members believe the effort could be money-saving in the future.

The city currently is looking to build a more than 200,000 gallon water tank and upgrade its own sewage treatment plant at a cost of more than $1 million.

However, joining the wastewater treatment effort may cost about the same, but save Stacy in labor and upkeep costs because those expenses would be shared.

An August meeting is planned for the wastewater treatment plant committee to meet again and discuss the next steps in the project.

Also at the meeting, council members voted unanimously to increase pay for election judges from $7.50 to $8 for judges and $8.50 for the head judge.

Anyone interested in judging should contact city hall.

The council also decided to contact area health departments and wildlife agencies to address rotting deer carcasses being kept on residential property on Gable Avenue.

According to several citizen complaints, a man who lives on Gable Avenue is aware of the carcasses and the unpleasant odor and sight they cause for his neighbors.

The neighbors wrote letters to city hall indicating that the carcasses have been on the property since November and that, although Chisago County Sheriffís Office deputies had been there, the man has not removed the carcasses.

City clerk Sharon Payne told the council that neighbors and sheriff's deputies had indicated that the man would not remove the carcasses even if he was ticketed. She told the council he simply would pay the fine and continue to leave the animalís dead body on the property.

The council decided to contact health department agencies to get recommendations on what company would be used to remove the carcasses and bill the man.
