More calls for emergency food supplies come in the summer
TO THE EDITOR: Weíre familiar with the special need for blood donors during the summer, but I was surprised to learn last week that the emergency food shelves are also in need of more donations in the summer. According to Lorraine Swenson, Family Pathways food pantry coordinator in North Branch, there is more call for emergency food supplies in the summer with children home from school. Some of these kids would normally receive free or reduced lunches at school. Some itemsİespecially needed are: cereals, canned fruits, spaghetti sauce and pasta products, soups and Spaghetti-Os, tuna, peanut butter,İfruit juices. Jars of baby food are really expensive these days, and those are needed also. Family Pathways downstairs at 6448 Main Street in North Branch has freezer and refrigerator space for meats, cheeses, etc. It is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Family Pathways foodİshelves and clothing/household stores are supported by contributions from individuals, foundations, local units of government, churches, civic groups and businesses. Letís remember to help families having problems in these tough economic times with an extra donation or food or cash to Family Pathways this summer. Twyla Ring North Branch
