Beck is new North Branch Rotary presidentGeorge Beck takes over as the fourth president of the North Branch Rotary Club. Beck is a sales manager for the Cambridge Star and also serves on the board of North Branch Chamber of Commerce. He is married and has two children. He and president-elect Doug Fischer attended president-elects training last March at Rotary International Headquarters in Evanston, Ill. As the incoming president he presented Candace Bontjes (2001-2002) a plaque in honor of her past year as club president at her last meeting as president, June 24. Other past club presidents include Ellen Walker (Provisional, 1998-1999), Bob Walz (Charter, 1999-2000) and Dr. William Piotrowski (2000-2001). While the North Branch Rotary Club is just entering its fourth year, Rotary International is fast approaching its centennial year. Rotary is the oldest service club and one of the largest in the world with almost 30,000 clubs and 1.2 million members in 162 countries. The purpose of Rotary is to provide an opportunity for business and professional men and women to provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world. The North Branch Rotary this year presented scholarships to four graduating seniors and many worthwhile organizations, among them: Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, Relay for Life, Senior Triad, Senior all-night party,Ý Anonymous Santa, Police Bike Rodeo, Family Pathways, and Youth Services Bureau. In addition, North Branch has contributed to a number of world community service projects, efforts to address world hunger, efforts to eradicate polio from the face of the earth, and hosted group study exchange teams from the Philippines, East Africa, Japan, Russia and Mexico. ©ECM Post Review |
