Mylo M. Carlson
Mylo Monroe Carlson died June 23, 2002 at the Kanabec Hospital in Mora, Minn., having reached the age of 74 years. Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 26, 2002 at the Swanson Funeral Chapel in Pine City with the Reverend Lee Reinsch officiating. Casket bearers were Tim Carlson, Marcus Huff, Dean Cummings, Rich Skluzacek, Todd Schuler, and Jeff Steele. Military rites were performed by the Minnesota National Guard of Pine City and the United States Army. Interment was in the Birchwood Cemetery at Pine City, Minn. Mylo, the son of Carl and Anna Christine (Olson) Carlson, was born March 27, 1928 at Rock Creek, Minn. He was the ninth child born into the Carlson family. He grew up in the Rock Creek area and attended Rock Creek School through the 8th grade. Prior to going into the military, he helped in the family store and also worked on nearby farms. At one time he drove a milk truck. Mylo entered the United States Army and served his country during the Korean conflict from 1951 to 1953. Late in 1953 he met Gladys Pistulka, and they were married on Jan. 15, 1954. Their family would eventually grow to include two girls and three boys. Mylo and Gladys lived in various places in Rush City and Pine City, Minn., and in the mid-1960s, finally settled in Pine City. They lived out their lives there, watching their children grow and start families of their own. They were blessed with five grandchildren. After driving truck for several years, Mylo was forced into retirement in 1977. He enjoyed hunting with his buddies and fishing with his family. He also spent a lot of days watching his son, Jari, play baseball and going golfing together. He helped his cousin, Tim Carlson, by driving tractor and helping with a variety of jobs on his farm. He enjoyed watching television and visiting with friends in the senior apartment complex where he lived. He is survived by his daughters and son-in-law: June and John Wolf of Woodbury, MN, and Jean Sanders of Jasper, MO; sons: Jaye Carlson and Jory Carlson of Rush City, and Jari Carlson of Brook Park, Minn.; five grandchildren: brother and sister-in-law: Darwin and Flora Carlson of Pine City; sister: Viola Mattson of Rush City; sisters-in-law: Maggie Carlson of Rush City, Verna Carlson and Ann Carlson of Pine City; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Christine Carlson; his wife, Gladys; his sisters Norma Swanson and Leona Carlson; and his brothers Reuben, Kenneth, Waldo and Harvey Carlson.
