Council interrupted by tornado sirenBy Danielle Strenke Discussion on major items was brief at the Stacy City Council meeting last Tuesday, following an interruption of the meeting by the threat of severe weather. The June 25 council meeting was recessed at approximately 7:30 p.m. when warning sirens went off following the issuance of a tornado warning for all of Chisago County. When the warning ceased 35-40 minutes later, the council reconvened with the absence of council members Barb Otterson and Katie Davidson. ìWe called them both, and they said they were unable to return for the rest of the meeting,î city clerk Sharon Payne said. While a quorum existed to continue the meeting, the council and Mayor Kathi Lawrence decided to table any major discussion or decisions without the full council present. When the meeting was interrupted, the council was receiving reports from city engineer Dan Boyum on several issues. The first was a recommendation to increase water and sewer availability charges (WAC and SAC) assessed to all new homes being built. The council approved increases for both fees. The SAC fee was increased from $1,600 to $3,200 and the WAC fee from $1,400 to $1,950. Preliminary figures were discussed on the construction of a new water tower for the city. ìCosts for each of these will be considered, and certain sewer lines will have to be enlarged. There are a lot of decisions involved,î Payne said. Following vandalism to another picnic table at the city park, the council approved the purchase of a surveillance camera to be installed there, with an estimated cost of $500. A tentative date for a budget work session was set for July 16. The councilís next regular meeting is Tuesday, July 9. ©ECM Post Review |
