Vikes earn five medals at state track meet

The Vikings track teams sent nine athletes to the State Track Meet June 7-8 at the National Sports Center in Blaine.

When Saturdayís finals were complete, the Vikes came away with five medals for their efforts.

Senior Joe Remitz medaled as champion in the class AA shot put, after a throw of 59í9î. Remitz placed fifth in the event at state last year.

After setting a new school record and taking first in the shot put at sections, junior Sheena Devine captured third place at the state meet, with an attempt of 42í7.5î.

In the boyís 300 hurdles, senior Reggie Grams took fourth, with a time of 39.42.

Two girls relay teams took sixth for the final medals at the meet.

The 4x100m relay team of seniors Kelly Lines and Michelle Vonderharr, sophomore Kaity Vichorek and freshman Jill VandenHeuvel were sixth with a time of :49.93.

The 4x200m relay team of Lines, Vonderharr, Vichorek and junior Rauna Dallman also took sixth, with a time of 1:47.83.

Lines also represented North Branch at the state meet in the long jump and 100m dash.

Vonderharr competed in the 200m dash at the state meet, while Remitz also competed in the discus event.

Senior Erin Shodahl earned a trip to state and competed in the discus.

The state meet ends a very successful season and the high school careers of seniors Lines, Shodahl, Vonderharr, Grams and Remitz.

Other seniors who will be missed from next yearís lineup are Melissa Cedergren, Megan OíHern, Eric Banks, Bryan Chippendale, Josh Davidson, Blake Hanson, Wes Haugan, Mark Kleven, Brian Perrault, Adam VandenHeuvel, Matt Wheeler and Mike Wimperis.
