Hilmer Carroll Johnson

Hilmer Carroll Johnson of North Branch passed away on Friday, June 7, 2002 at Fairview Southdale Hospital at the age of 76.

Funeral services will be held today, Wednesday, June 12 at St. John Lutheran Church of Weber with Rev. Lyle Kath officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Jon Ekstrom, accompanied by Al Nolting will sing ìThe Lordís Prayerî and ìBeneath the Cross of Jesus.î

Honorary pallbearer will be Krista Spahr. Active pallbearers will be Ryan Johnson, Dan Johnson, Rex Johnson, Bert Nelson, Jeff Stenberg and Kevin Schlipp. Interment will be in the St. Johnís Lutheran Cemetery. Arrangements were with the Carlson-Labatte Funeral Home in Cambridge.
Hilmer was born Aug. 2, 1925 to Hilmer N. and Minnie (Carlson) Johnson in Gibbon, Minn.

He was baptized on Sept. 20, 1925 at Clear Lake Lutheran Church in Gibbon. He confirmed his Christian faith on Nov. 27, 1938 at Faith Lutheran Church in Isanti.

Hilmer attended schools in Gibbon, Isanti and Cambridge. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII from February 1945 to December 1946 and the Korean Conflict from April 1950 to April 1953.
On Sept. 25, 1948 he married Lourna Mae Pfaffendorf at St. John Lutheran Church in Weber, Minn. They made their home in North Branch Township where they have lived for for 35 years.

Their union was blessed with two sons Kraig and Mark.

After his return from military service, Hilmer attended Dunwoody Institute where he completed his training as a tool room machinist, tool and die maker. He retired from J & O Industries, Inc. of which he was owner.

He was a man of many talents and interests. He enjoyed the outdoors and took advantage of much of what Minnesota had to offer. He also enjoyed working with his hands on his farm and in his workshops.

Hilmer was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church of Weber and a member of the American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his parents Hilmer N. and Minnie Johnson.

Hilmer is survived by Lourna Mae, his wife of 53 years, two sons Kraig and wife MaryAnn Johnson of Grand Haven, MI, Mark and wife Cindy Johnson of Almelund, three grandchildren, Krista and husband Tim Spahr, Ryan and wife Kelly Johnson, and Bert Nelson; one great-grandson, Alexander Johnson; brothers Eldred Johnson of Cambridge, Harold and wife MaryAnn Johnson of Isanti, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
