Midsummer starts June 19 in North BranchItís time for Midsummer fun in North Branch sponsored by the North Branch American Legion Post # 85. It all begins Wednesday, June 19 and runs through Sunday, June 23. Kicking off the community event is a Legion Auxiliary-sponsored Medallion Hunt with $100 in cash as the prize. Clues and rules will be posted daily at noon at the American Legion Club, the Chamber office, Heartís Desire, the Post Review office and North Branch City Hall. If you find the medallion, bring it to the American Legion for your cash prize. Advance sale carnival ride tickets are on sale right now up to noon, June 19, at various businesses in North Branch, Stacy and Harris. The carnival runs in Central Park all five days of the celebration. Wednesday evening is Bingo at the American Legion, outside under the big tent, weather permitting. Thursday activities includes a school bus driver dunk tank in the vacant lot in front of County Pawn on Main Street from noon - 8 p.m. Proceeds go to The Kiddie Parade takes place Thursday evening with registration at 5 p.m. and the costumed children stepping off at 6:30 p.m. This yearís Kiddie Parade King and Queen are Donavan Fairbanks and Emma Wilcox. Come enjoy supper at ìA Taste of North Branchî Family BBQ 5-7 p.m., Thursday night under the big tent at the Legion. At $6 for adults, you can sample the good foods North Branch businesses have to offer. A $3 childrenís special meal is offered, too. While dining, many door prizes will be given out donated by Chamber members. Then stay and enjoy the music of the ìJim Busta Band.î Friday is the queen coronation at 7 p.m. under the Legion tent. After the crowning, cheer on the young ladies as they take the traditional ride through town in the fire trucks. The bus driver dunk tank continues today noon - 8 p.m. Tanger Outlets will have sidewalk sales and the Legion Auxiliary opens its food stand which runs to the end of the event ñ located in the park. Saturday is a big day, full of Midsummer events starting with the Midsummer Golf Tournament at 8 a.m. Kiddie Midsummer Olympics will be held at the North Branch High School athletic field with registration at 9 a.m. Events start at 9:30 a.m., sharp. An Olde World Market with crafters, vendors, and merchants will be held at Tanger Outlet Center from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sidewalk sales continue also. Yes, there is such a thing as a free lunch, and you can get yours at the Legion tent from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m, sponsored by the American Legion Post 85. Getting soggy by now, but hanging in there, the school bus drivers will be up on the dunk tank seat again today. The Lioness Kiddie Tractor Pull takes place from 1-3 p.m. at the City Hall parking lot. Register by 12:30 before the pull. This event is for kids age 5-10. Abundant Life Church will have face painting, crafts, free root beer floats and more. Folks over 21 will enjoy capping off the day at the street dance 8:30-12:30 p.m. under the Legion tent. Listen or dance to the music of ìRedline.î Sunday morning begins with the Masonic Pancake Breakfast 7 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Masonic Hall east of North Branch on Hwy. 95. Sponsored by Chisago Lodge 232. Sidewalk sales continue at Tanger as well as the Olde World Market from 11 a.m.- 4 p.m. Then itís time for the Midsummer Parade, always a super fabulous event. It begins at 2 p.m. and runs up Main Street. New this year, following the parade, bag pipers will entertain under the tent and there will be a demonstration of cannon operations by a Civil War re-enactment group in the vacant lot in front of County Pawn until 5 p.m. And if you have any energy left after this five-day event, wind up your day at the street dance with live music by ìNashville Northî at the Legion tent.
