Rush City School Board approves budgetBy MaryHelen Swanson Using an enrollment projection for 2002-2003 school year of 1,118, the Rush City School preliminary budget has been prepared and presented to the school board for approval. It was approved by the board last Thursday. The preliminary budget shows the district with a beginning fund balance (as of June 30, 2002) of $15,334,346.61. The 2002-2003 revenue budget is set at $9,338.401 and the expenditure budget is estimated at $20,655,758. Using these figures, the estimated fund balance at the end of June 2003 will be down to $4,016,989.61. The board also agreed to stay with the current auto insurance company, Auto Owners, for all school vehicles, even though there is a 17.7 percent premium increase. It still was far below the second bidder, MSBA Trust. The board accepted the resignations of Holly Larson and Linda Swanson, both Family Center Paraprofessionals, and Larry Larson, Custodian II. They hired Korbi Luttrell as Family Center Para and noted open positions at this time: elementary para, head volleyball coach, assistant gymnastic coach, senior high Declam, cheerleading advisor, two bus drivers, Custodian II and an early childhood program position. Work is underway on the high school roof and the contractor estimates it will be done by the first week of October. When finished, the school will have a new 5-inch built up roof. The hired architect has been meeting with the elementary staff and has come up with a schematic plan for the new building that includes three singular units connected at one end. Superintendent Tim Eklund apprised the board of information received from district resident Terry Moses, including information about geothermal heating. Eklund reminded the board that the high school is already using a geothermal system and was one of the earliest schools in the state to do so. The board also received several thank yous from staff who appreciated the end of year breakfast and gift of a shirt. They also reviewed policies including the civic responsibility of staff, vending machines, predatory offender notices, the Profile of Learning Appeal process, establishing the budget, the modification of school district budget, the school audit and transportation of students. ©ECM Post Review |
