Denny was born June 25, 1952 to Iner and Elizabeth Carlson in Mora, Minn. He attended high school in Sandstone, graduating in 1970. He furthered his education by attending St. Cloud State College, Northwestern College, and most recently Century College for air and water analysis.

Denny also served in the United States Air Force from 1972-1976.

On June 18, 1977 he was united in marriage to Joanne Sundeen, his high school sweetheart, at the Evangelical Free Church in Sandstone. Denny and Joanne made their first home in Aitkin, Minn. and then moved to Roseville, Minn. where Joanne completed college.

Following college, the couple made their home in Sandstone for five years before moving to the North Branch area in 1982 where they lived for twelve years. In the spring of 1994 Denny and Joanne moved back to the area that Denny grew up and have since resided.

Denny was employed as an electrical apprentice, and later worked for Burlington Northern Railroad, Clean Flow Labs Inc. of Hopkins, cities of North Branch and Sandstone Public Works Departments and presently as a cook at the Grand Grill in the Grand Casino Hinckley.

Denny was an avid hunter and fisherman. He passed on his love for the outdoors to his three sons, Jonathan, Justin, and Jared. Denny loved the times he spent hunting and fishing, especially when these times involved his sons.

Denny also enjoyed attending the Danforth Community Chapel with his family. He was very much a planner and even wrote an essay for a college assignment on his ěDream Home.î Four years after writing the essay he established that peaceful, country dream home in Danforth Township.

It is a tribute to his talents and planning abilities. His ingenuity produced many beautiful amenities such as a pond, waterfall, gardens and rock accents for the house and yard.

Denny was diagnosed with cancer about a year ago. Since that time he has faced a poor prognosis with strength, courage and reality. He has been an inspiration to many during this time.
Denny was preceded in death by his father, Iner Carlson.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Joanne of Danforth Township, sons: Jonathan, Justin and Jared; brothers Richard and wife Lois of Aurora, Colo. Morris and wife Darlene of Sandstone, Douglas of Sandstone and John and wife Phyllis of Lewistown, Mont.; sister Marlys and husband Norman Christiansen of Taylors Falls, Minn.; his mother Elizabeth Carlson of Sandstone; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Blessed by his memory.
