Councilman chosen in NB

The North Branch City Council welcomed Lawrence Erickson to the council table for his first meeting May 28.

Erickson was chosen from a pool of nine residents who had expressed interest in the seat vacated by Roger Else who was appointed mayor when John Pinsonneault resigned. Erickson is a service technician for a coffee company in the metropolitan area.

Prior to that, he was store manager for Bumper to Bumper in North Branch and had been a member and past president of the area chamber of commerce board.

Erickson volunteers with Boy Scouts and the Anonymous Santa program. He is a a member of North Branch United Methodist Church and volunteers his time on councils and committees there. He graduated in 1978 from North Branch High School.

The council also approved a conditional use permit for the city Water and Light Commission to build a 134í water tower along Grand Avenue in accordance with an agreement struck with the school district.

The council also denied a request from Steven and Gisele Driscoll to amend the zoning ordinance to allow a commercial business in a residential district.The Driscolls had plans to put a food shelf in their home on Pine Street.
