Tiger track team members place at 4A section meet

Several members of the Rush City High School track team placed in events during the Section 4A meet held at Macalester College in St. Paul June 1.

In the girls four-by-800 meter relay, the team of freshman Christine Frandsen, seventh-grader Amber Hoffman, eighth-grader Heather Dean and sophomore Kayla Witte placed fourth.

Witte also placed third in the 3,200 meter run, barely missing her chance to compete in the state track tournament.

Only the top two runners in the 3,200 run were allowed to go on to more competition.

Witte faced the section record-holder, Catherine Ferrell, from St. Paul Academy in Saturdayís race.
Ferrell set the record in 2001 with a time of 11:09.8, Frandsen also placed eighth in the 1,600 meter run competition.

Junior Brett Dreissig placed fourth in the 110-meter hurdles for the boys. Dreissig also competed in the 300-meter hurdles.

Other Rush City High School team members who attended and competed in the section championship were: senior Elise Johnson, shot put and discus; eighth-grader Elizabeth Melin, triple jump; senior Jose Figueroa, high jump, long jump and 100-meter dash; eighth-grader Alex Saxton, 100-meter dash; junior Britta Johnson, triple jump, 200-meter and 400-meter dashes; Heather Dean, long jump; sophomore Dustin Hecht, 800-meter run; and freshman Dan Gamache, 400-meter dash.

Tiger track head coach Mike Vaughn said he is confident the team will make a good showing in meets next year.

ìWe are all pleased with the accomplishments made by everyone on the team,î he said.
ìI feel next year we will be even stronger.î
