Tiger baseball ends season with tough loss to Hill City

The Rush City Tigers baseball team ended its season last week after a devastating loss to Hill City.

Rush City faced Hill City May 28 in the seasonís Section 5A North semi-final competition.

The Hill City offense was on the ball and the team finished the day with a 6-1 victory to go on to play for the section championship.

Tigers head coach Bob Schlagel said Hill City had earned three of its six runs due to Tiger errors.

He said the first nine Hill City hitters did ìa good job of getting the bat on the ball.î

Rush City, however, was not as lucky at the plate.
The team had only three hits the entire game and 11 Tigers were struck out before the day was done.

Senior Shawn Sjostrom, playing in his final high school game picked up a double and single and scored the only Tiger run.

Senior Eric Brown, also playing in his last game, picked up the only other Tiger hit on the day.

ìThe Hill City pitcher kept our hitters pretty well in check,î Schlagel said. ìWhen you get only three hits on the day, you are not going to win many games.î

The Tigers ended the 2002 season with a winning record, earning 10 wins and suffering nine losses.
