North Branch girl, 15, dies after car accident

A North Branch High School student, who will be remembered for her sense of humor, died Monday afternoon after the car she was riding in crashed on Co. Rd. 14.

Megan Maranda Koehler, 15, was taken to Wyoming Hospital for initial treatment. She was then taken to Hennepin County Medical Center where she died of her injuries.

Megan, an honor student, was in ninth grade at North Branch High School. She was active in school activities including the Power Program, speech club and student council.

She played on the girls soccer, basketball and softball teams.

Megan loved music, her mother Jan Koehler said. She played trumpet, but mostly she collected compact discs and listened to them often.

Megan was born Sept. 29, 1986, in Edina. Her family moved to North Branch 11 years ago. Megan was a ìwhiz at computers,î Jan Koehler said. ìShe loved talking to her friends on the Internet.î

Megan developed an interesting sense of humor. ìShe was very silly,î Jan Koehler said. ìShe knew the movie ëTommy Boyí by heart.î Her mother said one of the things she remembers most fondly of Megan is that ìshe always wanted to make us laugh.î

Megan is survived by her parents, Jan and Brian Koehler; her sisters Errin and Briana; a grandmother, JoAnn Erickson in Rush City; and Ed and Rita Koehler, her grandparents in Illinois.
