Stacy Council agrees to annexation
Building permit for new fire hall put on hold

By Barbara Brown

The Stacy City Council agreed to annex property owned by two separate families at the March 12 council meeting.

A public hearing was called for 7:30 p.m., but one of the families did not appear. The council allowed the developer of the other property to speak on behalf of the second family as testimony.

The public hearing was recessed until nearly 9 p.m when the late family and their developer appeared at the meeting.

After reconvening the public hearing, the council agreed to send the annexation requests to county agencies for stamps of approval.

Also at the meeting, the council voted 3-2 to put off signing a building permit if it was granted at a special meeting held Tuesday night.

Lent Township has already discussed the option of filing a lawsuit against Stacy regarding potentially illegal decisions that have been made during the process to build a new fire hall.

Stacy Mayor Kathi Lawrence suggested that the city put off signing a building permit for Lent to construct the new Stacy-Lent Area Volunteer Fire Department building until March 25.

The clerk for Stacy will be out of town March 19-22 and the clerk is the cityís designee to sign building permits.

If the clerk is not available, the city can appoint someone else to act in the clerkís stead, according to city attorney Peter Grundhoeffer.

As Grundhoeffer was trying to explain how to appoint someone to take the clerkís place, Lawrence said she didnít think putting off the signing would hurt the process.

The suggestion to not sign the building permit until March 25 passed 3-2 with council members Barb Otterson and Katie Davidson voting against it.

Lent Township had already discussed that a lawsuit may be filed against the city if its special Tuesday night meeting had ìanything but a positive outcome.î

Further discussion by Lent on what to do could continue tonight (March 20) if a posted meeting is held at the Lent Town Hall.

Lent posted the meeting so it could be prepared to discuss any possible negative outcome of the Stacy meeting.

The meeting may not have been held, depending on the Stacy City Council decisions from Tuesday.
