Rush City boys track takes fifthBy Barbara Brown The Rush City High School boys track team took fifth in the first meet of the season March 22 at St. Cloud State Universityís Field House. The meet got off to a late start because organizers had to wait for one of the teams to arrive. Held concurrently during the running events were high jump, long jump, shot put, triple jump and pole vault events. Rush City did not enter the pole vault events. The Tigers beat Ogilvie, which scored 12. In most track and field events, the difference between winning and losing can be shaved down to tenths of seconds. In the Friday night relay events, that fact became relevant. The Tigers four-by-100 relay team took third place with 49.88 seconds on the clock. Braham came in first with 49.3 in that event and Aitkin took second with 49.38. On the team was junior Joe Prettner, Zack Becker, Chad Karlson and freshman Dan Gamache. Prettner took second in the 400-meter dash, finishing in 56.4, just two-tenths of a second behind the first place runner from Hinckley-Finlayson. The medley relay team of Karlson, Becker, Gamache and Brandon Clemens pulled down fourth place with a finishing time of 1:57.06. In the four-by-200 event, the relay team took fourth with a time of 1:51.41. That team was made up of Prettner, Becker, Gamache and sophomore Rob Erickson. Erickson also earned fifth place honors in the 55-meter hurdles, finishing in 10.06 seconds. Gamache pulled down a fifth place slot in the shot put, landing it 35 feet, 4 and one-half inches away. ěThe Tigers look pretty good for having so few practices,î said head coach Mike Vaughn. ěThe first meet is good to see what needs to be worked on and in what areas were are weak.î The boys team takes its 1-4 record to Ogilvie April 2. Rush City hosts other teams at an April 4 home meet. ©ECM Post Review |
