Almelund woman bowls for big prize

Almelund resident Corinne Kruse won big during a bowling tournament at JJís Bowl in North Branch, held April 21.

The annual nine-pin, no tap tournament is the culmination of monthly tournaments that begin in October.

The tournaments are open to men and women. Qualifiers each month end up participating in the final tournament.

Kruse earned the final tournament jackpot of $500 for taking the tournamentís best three-of-four format against both men and women opponents and an additional prize for the high game of the tournament.

Kruse started with a 268 and finished the day with 219, 230 and 264. She ended the tournament with an 834 series to win first place.

Kruse bowls regularly at JJís Bowl, is a member of three leagues and has a 170 average.

ěI still canít believe I really won the tournament and all the games,î Kruse said. ěMy good luck charm was with me, my daughter, Jolynn.î

Kruse, along with teammate North Branch resident Mary Eslinger, will compete in the Womenís International Bowling Congress national tournament June 18.
