Boys golf take second at RRC meetThe Vikings boys golf squad turned in a strong showing and earned second place in the eight-team Rum River Conference meet Monday. On a day that brought sunny skies one minute and a heavy downpour the next, the Viking six remained undeterred. The team tied Princeton with 169 but lost the tiebreaker with the Tigers turning in a lower score from its fifth golfer. In the second round of the day, Chisago Lakes took first with 159 followed by Mora with 163, Sauk Rapids with 166 and North Branch with another 169. Sam Dehn led the Vikes on the first nine with 38, followed by Kyle Ekstrom with 42, Tom Koep with 44 and Tyler Leland with 45. Ekstrom and Leland tied with 41 to lead the second nine for the team, while Bryan Peters turned in a 43 and Ryan Nelson with a 44. With two Rum River Conference team meets remaining, the Vikings sit in fifth place with 23 points. Sauk holds fourth with 24, and Princeton is in third with 25. Chisago leads the conference with 34 with Mora trailing in second with 32. The Vikings will look to move up a place or two with strong showings at the last two meets, scheduled for Thursday at Chisago Lakes and Friday at Pine City. 7AA section play will begin May 23 for the Vikings at Hinckley. ©ECM Post Review |
