Hits did not add up to Tiger runs

Rush City baseball hit a slump last week, taking two losses.

Rush City 3, Isle 8

A May 6 home game against Isle ended in an 8-3 loss that disappointed head coach Bob Schlagel.
Pitching was off during the game and the team simply could not get its game together.

The team committed four errors which led to six unearned runs.

On the offense, the team had only four hits for the day.

Junior pitchers Derek Benson and Josh Munchow combined to hit five Isle batters.

The team lagged at the beginning of the game and never seemed to bounce back.ìWhen you have this type of day, you know you are in trouble,î Schlagel said.

Rush City 4, East Central 5

The Tigers took another loss after a May 10 home game against East Central ended 5-4.

The game went eight innings with and the Tigers out-hit the Eagles 12-4, but the team could not get around the bases.

Rush City had numerous opportunities to score, Schlagel said, but could not come up with a big hit when it was needed.

A total of thirteen runners were left standing on bags at the ends of Tiger at-bat sessions.

Junior center-fielder Adam Nelson racked up two hits and sophomore second baseman Kellin Sybrant brought three hits for the team.

Junior catcher Dylan Lindman contributed to the hit total with two.

Pitcher Munchow threw all eight innings and finished the day with seven strike-outs and eight walks.

The East Central runs were unearned.

This was a very tough game to lose,î Schlagel said. ìThe kids hit the ball extremely well. Our biggest problem was we left too many runners in scoring position.

The teamís record went to 5-4 in conference and 5-4 overall.
