ëFour runs in firstí trend broken

This season, the Rush City High School softball team had developed a habit of allowing four runs by their opponents in the first innings of several games.

But a game May 10 turned action around for the Tigers.

The team scored five runs in the first inning against their East Central hosts, turning the game in favor of the Tigers and ultimately leading to a 13-1 win.

In the first, a hit by senior Brooke Larson pushed freshman Breann Stottler home and left the bases loaded.

Sophomores Mindy Scott and Ashley Stanley took advantage of wild pitches to score for the Tiger and a single by junior Samantha Saxton put Larson and junior Jess Prettner on home.

The Tigers picked up one run in the second, five in the third and two in the fourth.

Stottler and Larson each had three hits and Stanley and Saxton each pitched in two hits toward the teamís 15-hit game.

Pitchers Page Rieland and Shannon Karvonen combined efforts for the win.

ìIt was one of those few sunny days this spring and our girls really pounded the ball, said head coach Rick Kosloski.

The win took the teamís conference record to 4-5.

May 6: Isle 8, Rush City 1

A May 6 home game against Isle did not finish as well for Rush City.

Isle pulled out a 4-0 lead in the first and the Tigers could not recover. Rush City fell to the Huskies 8-1.

The heart-pounding highlight of the game was in the second when Larson singled, stole second base and came home on a two-out single by sophomore catcher Meghan OíShea.

Larson and OíShea both went two for four, totaling four of the teamís six hits in the Isle game.

ìMindy Scott pitched a decent game for us, but we didnít give her any run support and our defense was a little sloppy, Kosloski said.î
