Relay teams lead to successThe Vikings boys track team earned a first place finish at the Cambridge Invite Friday, while the girls took third. Earlier in the week, both teams took second at the Pine City relays Tuesday. Relay teams led in track events at Cambridge, with the 3200m team, 800m team and 1600m teams all capturing first place. The 400m relay team took second. In individual events, Reggie Grams took first in the 300m hurdles and second in long jump, Joe Remitz was first in shot put and Brian Perrault was first in high jump. Blake Hanson was second in pole vault. The boys took the meet with 125.5 points, defeating teams from Cambridge, Chisago Lakes, Cloquet, Duluth Denfeld, Duluth East, St. Francis and Spring Lake Park. The girls squad was second only to Spring Lake Park, finishing with 109.5 points. The 800m and 400m relay teams took first, and Kelly Lines was first in the 100m dash. Michelle Vonderharr took first in the 200m dash, and Rauna Dallman was first in the high jump. At Pine City, both squads finished in second behind the Sauk Rapids teams. Three girls relay teams captured first: the 400m, 800m and 1600m. Jenny Anderson, Melissa Cedergren and Katie Zangs combined for first place in the 3x300m hurdles, and Kelli Carlson, Joanne Plaster and Erin Shodahl threw for a combined first place in discus. Dottie Graff, Zangs and Lines teamed up to take first in the long jump. On the boys side, the 3200m relay team, the 800m relay team, the 400m relay team and the 1600m relay team all captured first place in their events. Grams, Perrault and Al Moore combined for first in the 3x300m hurdles, and the distance medley team of Mark Kleven, Ben Stenberg, Ryan Smith and Scott Weispfenning took first in that event. This week, the team will split its forces Friday, with half participating in the Chisago Lakes Invite and half traveling to the Duluth Denfeld Invite. Both meets begin at 3:30 p.m. ©ECM Post Review |
