He gave up six walks and six hits and had three errors. ìIt was nice for the kids to get their first win of the season,î said head coach Bob Schlagel. ìCollecting 12 hits on the day is great.î However, Schlagel said, in order for the Tigers to become consistent and competitive, the team needs to play better defense and limit the number of walks given up to their opposition. The next day brought another win for the Tigers when a game scheduled at Braham was moved to Rush City because the Bombers field was too wet to use. Going into the seventh inning, the Tigers were trailing 3-0, but closed out their offensive game impressively by scoring five runs to take a 5-3 lead. The bottom of the seventh, the Tigers gave up only one more run to Braham, taking the final score to 5-4. In the seventh, Kellin Sybrant and junior Jeff Hrdlichka singled to put runners on first and second. Junior Dylan Lindman was walked to load the bases. Sybrant was driven in on a single by junior Adam Nelson. Sjostrom was hit by a pitch, which forced a run by Hrdlichka. With the bases loaded, Roll approached the plate and singled to left, scoring Lindman and Nelson. Willert followed Roll with a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Sjostrom. Derek Benson started his first varsity game as pitcher. He gave up four hits, walked two, hit one and struck out for of the 31 batters he faced. The Tigers eked out a 7-6 win over Aitkin on April 25 when junior Josh Munchow pitched for the first time this year, giving up two hits, walking four and hitting one of the 20 batters he faced.
