Rush City softball beats Aitkin in five innings by ten-run ruleThe 10-run rule was in full effect last week for the Rush City Tigers softball team. The Tigers closed their game against Aitkin, played at Rush City April 25, in the fifth inning. Five runs were scored in the first inning for Rush City on three singles and a triple. The fifth inning brought six runs on four walks and three hits. Pitchers junior Page Reiland and sophomore Mindy Scott split duties with Reiland pitching three innings and Scott finishing with two. Reiland had two strike outs, one walk, gave four hits and one error after facing 16 batters. Scott pitched to 12 batters, had three strike outs, walked one and gave up three hits. Short stop senior Brooke Larson went three for three with two doubles. Catcher sophomore Meghan OíShea doubled and had four runs batted in by the time the game ended. Second baseman sophomore Ashley Stanley went two for three on the day. For head coach Rick Kosloski, the day produced a triple reward. ìWeíre happy to get 11 hits, a win and finish in five innings on a cold, windy day,î he said. The Tigers are now 2-3 in conference and 2-4 overall needed the win to come off the losing slump they had been in earlier. On April 23, the team faced Braham at home and lost 6-2. In the top of the fourth, catcher OíShea chased down a low pop-up from a Braham hitter and fired the ball to first base. The runner was caught off the bag when junior first baseman Jess Prettner made the catch, resulting in a double play. In the bottom of the sixth, with Braham leading 3-0, Scott was walked and Prettner followed with a single, leaving runners on first and second. Larson approached the plate and doubled to left center, hitting in both Scott and Prettner to take the score to 3-2. ìIt was a good game through six innings until Braham scored three more runs in the top of the seventh to take a 6-2 lead,î Kosloski said. Larson went two for three for the day. Pitcher Reiland held the Bombers to six hits, two walks and four strike outs. ìOur defense looked a little rough today with four errors,î Kosloski said. ìThis is an area we will continue to work on.î ©ECM Post Review |
