Boys and girls relay teams join top five ranks for Rush City

The Rush City seventh grade boys track team took first place at the April 23 Tiger Cub meet on their home track.

Relay teams from both the boys and girls track groups got special recognition for a job well done by coach Mike Vaughn.

The seventh grade boys four-by-100 and four-by-200 teams both finished in first place, landing spots in the top five of Rush City seventh grade teams.

ìThe seventh grade boys are extremely strong in most events,î Vaughn said. The relay teams have not been beat yet.î

The relay teams were made up of Dan Scheffer, Zach Johnson, Kyle Yager and Jeff Jennings.

Josh Dahl also had a double successful day. He took first place in the individual 1,600 meter run and the 800 meter run.

Individual recognition was given to Jeff Jennings for landing first in the high jump and second in the 100 meter dash.

Dan Scheffer tied for third with teammate Jon Meis in the low hurdles.

Meis also secured a fifth place finish in the 1,600 meter run and sixth in the 800 meter run.

Zach Johnson took second in the 800 meter race and finished fourth in discus.

The eighth grade team had only three boys competing in events.

Korey Sybrant took fourth in low hurdles and Noah Reichart took third in the 1,600 meter run and fifth in the 800 meter run.

Mora finished second behind Rush City with Siren taking the third place spot. Chisago Lakes was fourth and Braham took fifth.

During the Tiger Cub girls track competition, Rush City finished the day in fourth place.

Chisago Lakes finished first, North Branch second and Pine City third.

Amber Hoffman set a steady pace for the long distance runs and it paid off.

Hoffman secured first place in both the 1,600 meter and 800 meter runs.

Becca Rogers took third in both long distance runs and Kelly Moore landed fourth place in the 1,600 meter and sixth in the 800 meter.

Justine Prettner, Katie Widman, Nicole Bowman and Sammi Luckoff made up the four-by-100 meter relay team.

ìA coach always likes to see two and three girls placing in each event, like these seventh graders,î Vaughn said.

The team finished in third place.

Janet Keman took first place in high jump, Rhianna Wood finished sixth in discus.

Amber Hoffman was fifth in long jump and Katie Widman finished sixth in long jump.

For the eighth grade girls group, Alex Saxton reached a new eighth grade record in the 100 meter dash with a time of 14.22 seconds.

However, Saxtonís dash was not quick enough and she was edged out of first place to finish the day in second.

Saxton also secured the sixth place spot in long jump.

The four-by-100 meter relay team of Saxton, Brianna Launderville, Liz Melin and Kaylee Johnson also reached the top five for eighth graders at Rush City.

Susie Youngbauer took third in discus and sixth place in shot put.
