Planning commission member new Stacy council addition

By Barbara Brown

Former planning commission member Lee Schultz is Stacyís newest council member.
Schultz replaces Greg Kaslow who was filling in temporarily for former council member Connie Donahue.

Donahue resigned her post two weeks ago after returning from Florida.

She cited time commitment as her reason for leaving the council.

While she was away, the council had voted to hold two regular meetings a month instead of their usual one meeting.

The reason for the change was that holding only one meeting forced the council to postpone decisions on some items for months because the council may not continue a meeting past midnight on a meeting day.

Past council meetings had last five hours.

With Schultzís appointment, an opening is left on the planning commission.

In other council action, council members received a notice listing the numbers of council meetings and work sessions that had been called since January 2001 and how many each member had missed.

Mayor Kathi Lawrence was listed as missing three of 54 meetings called, council member Katie Davidson was listed as missing 13 and council member Barb Otterson was listed at missing nine.

Council member John Walz took office later than the other three and was listed as missing three of 26 meetings held since he joined the council.

During the meeting, Davidson cited a lengthy illness and her belief that some meetings called last year were unnecessary and a waste of tax payer money as her reasons for not attending.

In other council business, the council:

ï Approved a contract with Chisago County for animal control service at 10 hours per week;

ï Decided 314th and 307th streets were in desperate need of repair. Options are being investigated;

ï Announced plans to repair and refurbish some playground equipment at Stacy Park; and

ï Ordered the ordinance committee to find out if the city has an ordinance requiring homeowners to plant grass in their yards and care for the yard.
