Brodin reaches 300 wins

By Danielle Strenke

He is a modest man who isnít quick to boast about his accomplishments. That is why when Vikings head softball coach Larry Brodin reached the milestone of earning his 300th career win last week, he was surprised that so many people knew about it.

Brodin knew a win against Sauk Rapids last Tuesday would put him at 300 wins, but he did not share that with his staff or members of the team.
The staff and team, however, did know, as did many of the fans watching in the stands.

At the end of the game, everyone congratulated Brodin for reaching such an impressive milestone.

Assistant coach Heather Olson said everyone was excited. ìWe are excited to be a part of it, to share in the 300th win,î she said.

Brodin, who is in his 23rd year of coaching softball at North Branch, joins the ranks of the top 20 softball coaches in the state. Olson said Brodinís record may very well have put him in the top 10, but those statistics are not readily available at this time.

Coming into the season, Brodin had 291 wins. The girls squad brought him No. 300 with a 3-1 win over Sauk Rapids May 14 in front of a large home crowd.

To show their support, the four seniors on the team ñ Errin Koehler, Jamie Schlagel, Andrea Kaminski and Kate Sykes ñ presented Brodin with a picture of the team signed by all the players after the game.
