N. Branch has its own flag man
TO THE EDITOR: At this time in our nations history the flag has renewed importance as a symbol of our country and its freedoms. Many people are showing their loyalty,î To the Republic for which it stands,î by flying the flag at their homes and business. With Memorial Day coming up itís a time to think of all those who fought and those who died for our freedom. I recently found out North Branch has itís own flag man. Pat Tallarico a Korean War vet and Commander of Veterans of Foreign War Post 6424 in North Branch is our flag man. Last year he put up over 70 flags in this area. I met Pat because we wanted a flag pole to display the flag better than the one we had mounted on our house. Pat recommended the 20í pole which he installs for $150.00, he also has a 16í pole for a little less. This is the only fund raiser VFW Post 6424 does, but there is much more to it than fund raising for the VFW. Itís a chance to show everyone going by your home or business that you support our country and the troops here and around the world defending our freedoms. Pat Tallarico will gladly come and install a flag pole and flag for you. He can be reached at 651-674-7854. Pat does a nice job installing the pole and I canít describe the feeling I had when he said,î Why donít you run the flags up for the first time.î We got the American flag and the Missing in Action, Prisoner of War flag to let people know those who havenít come back are not forgotten. One thing Pat and I talked about was to not fly the flag at night without a light on it. So please think about if you are flying the flag to take it down at night or put a light on it. To truly honor our flag and country fly the flag proudly, yet do it by the rules of etiquette which Pat also has copies available. Rick Olseen Sunrise Township
