RC softball has one win, two losses in latest match-ups

The Rush City softball team jumped out with two runs in the top of the first inning in the May 14 game against Hinckley-Finlayson, but the teamís lead slipped away.

Rush City 3, H-F, 4

Second baseman Ashley Stanley was first at bat and took a walk. She then stole second to open the game with energy. Third baseman Mindy Scott reached first base on an infield error by the Jaguars and short stop Brooke Larson walked on a full count to load the bases.

First baseman Jess Prettner grounded out, but managed to earn an RBI by scoring Stanley.
Catcher Meghan OíShea was hit by a pitch, allowing Scott to score the second run.

The Tigers led 2-1 until the bottom of the third when the Jaguars took a 3-2 lead. Rush City scored again in the top of the seventh, but it wasnít enough to catch Hinckley-Finlayson.

ìWe left 10 runners stranded on base today,î head coach Rick Kosloski said. ìOur inability to bring those runners home really hurt our chances.î

Page Rieland pitched in the loss and gave up five hits, four walks and struck out three.

Rush City 4, Ogilvie 2

Losing to the Jaguars may have charged up the Tigers when they went to face Ogilvie May 15.
In the Top of the third, left-fielder Breann Stottler was walked and Stanley hit to left, advancing Stottler to third.

Scott also was walked to load the bases and clean-up hitter Larson made the most of the situation by driving in all three base runners with a double to left-center. Stanley went two for three on the day while Larson made a nice show with three for four in her third consecutive multi-hit game. Rieland pitched the win with five hits, one walk and one strike out.

Rush City 1, Braham 2

Rival Braham barely beat the Tigers May 17.

The first run of the close game came in the top of the third with two outs and three consecutive singles by Stanley, Scott and Larson gave the Tigers the lead which they would hold on to until the top of the sixth when Braham would tie up the game. Braham scored after two walks and a single in the bottom of the seventh to take the lead and the win.

Rush City out-hit Braham 5-2, but the Bombers took advantage of the seven walks given up by Rieland, said Kosloski.

Rieland also struck out three.
