North Branch twins killed in car accidentBy Barbara Brown A pair of seven-year-old twins were killed Wednesday evening after a car accident near Tanger Outlet Center when they were on their way to church. According to a Department of Public Safety report, Marita Falk and David Falk, 7, both of North Branch, were passengers in a car driven by Heather M. Kalliger, 19 of North Branch. Kalliger, the twinsí sister, was driving to a weekly youth church meeting at a Forest Lake church at the time of the accident, according to friends of the family. The 1999 Saturn Kalliger drove was traveling southbound into the intersection of Highway 95 and Flink Avenue at 6:42 p.m. when the car was hit by a 1995 Ford pickup truck driven by Michael S. Lundell Jr., 19, of North Branch. Lundellís truck was headed westbound on Hwy. 95 when it drove through a red light at the intersection and hit the rear passenger side of the Saturn, police said. According to people close to the Falk family, the pickup truck driver was on the way to a hospital in Cambridge because someone in his family was having a heart attack. Marita Falk was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead, police said. David Falk was taken to Regions Medical Center for head injuries. He died at the hospital, police said. Kalliger, Lundell and a juvenile passenger in Lundellís car were not injured. Everyone in both cars was wearing seat belts, according to the report. The accident is being investigated and no charges had been filed in the case as of Friday. Visitation services are scheduled for Sunday at Grandstrand Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and funeral services are Monday at 11 a.m. at Abundant Life Church on Elm Street. ©ECM Post Review |
