Adoptive families are needed
To the editor: Once again it is November ñ Adoption Awareness Month. Two years ago my husband, myself and our five children were blessed with two daughters through adoption. We have been excited to see the special connection that these children have been able to make with other adopted children. As the East Central Minnesota Parent Liaison for the Minnesota Adoption Support and Preservation program, it is my privilege to connect adoptive families with one another. We enjoy the opportunity to support one another through phone calls, an online support group, and adoption gatherings throughout the region. We also are blessed to see the relationships that our children have developed with other kids like them. In addition to supporting each other, as adoptive parents we also want to encourage more families to join us in the adoption journey. Currently, Minnesota has over 500 children waiting to be adopted. Adoptive parents donít need to have a high income or own a home. They may be married or single. Adoption and foster care social workers are looking for families with ìreal lifeî experience and the ability to cope with challenges. They are not looking for perfect families. If you are already an adoptive parent, waiting for your adoptive child, or considering beginning the process, I would love to hear from you.
