Brookside plat approved in RC
By MaryHelen Swanson The Brookside townhome preliminary plat has been approved by the Rush City Council and developer Mike Murphy expects home construction to begin next spring. This will provide 103 new housing units in a homeownerís association community. Many of the homes will have views overlooking the Brookside Golf Course, Murphy noted at the council meeting Monday night. Murphy also told the council that he talked with the Williams Pipeline company and was assured there would be no problems associated with a gas line going through the development. City Administrator Daniel Hoffman said he also talked with Murphy about some sort of playground area. While is isnít expected that there would be a lot of children living in the development, the council thought it was a good idea, especially for grandchildren who might visit. City Engineer Bob Moberg did have a number of items that needed to be addressed before final construction plans are approved. They included issues surrounding storm sewers, elevations, sanitary sewer manhole locations and locating a fire hydrant at the high point where Bunker Circle crosses the existing pipeline. Assessment hearings The council discussed upcoming street assessment hearings, set for Dec. 9 and Dec. 10. Administrator Hoffman noted that the residents being assessed for the improvements will have 15 years to pay the assessments through their taxes. The city is picking up the costs of improvements on Grey Avenue, $45,115, plus another $51,900 for the West 9th Street reconstruction project. The total cost of the Grey/ West 9th Street project was $200,845.10. The city is also picking up $86,875 on the Bremer Avenue and Colfax Street project. Total of the Bremer/Colfax project was $144,289.50. New soft-serve eatery The council also learned of the new business being constructed in the parking area at Main Street Market. It will be a fast-food business owned by Glen and Tracie Kuhlman. In talking with Kuhlman Tuesday morning, the Post Review learned that the business, called T.J. Koolyís, is scheduled to open April 1. Kuhlman said they will serve soft-serve ice cream, sub sandwiches, fries etc. He said it was like combining several fast-food places into one. It will be open all year. One of the exciting aspects, Kuhlman said, is that they will be featuring 9 flavors of soft-serve. ìWeíre excited,î he said. According to Hoffman, the business is being included in what is called a ìcommon interest community,î in a commercially-zoned district. The Kuhlmanís have to go through a subdivision process, but it has nothing to do with the commercial aspect of the business, Hoffman said.
